There are now more than 100,000 prescription drugs in Mexico seized by U. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in an operation to enforce a US-imposed ban on the importation of food and drugs.
Customs and Border Protection, the nation's largest agency for combating drugs and biological products, said the operation was part of the largest force in the nation for combating the illegal importation of drugs.
In an operation known as the “Operation Say Goodbye to Drugs,” CBP officers seized 500,000 illegal prescription drugs worth US$2 million ($1.23 million) and 500,000 non-prescription drugs worth US$1.6 million. The total value of the drugs was up to US$1.23 million in the first nine months of this year.
In the first three months of this year, CBP officers have seized nearly 500,000 illegal prescription drugs. They have also seized about 1,400,000 non-prescription drugs.
The CBP officers also seized more than 500,000 counterfeit and fake drugs, including fake pharmaceuticals and anti-retroviral drugs, that were sold in Mexico by street dealers.
The operation is part of a coordinated efforts by the U. S.-based drug trade group, trade group Action Network for Safe Medicines (AZMS). In total, CBP officers seized more than 3,800,000 prescription drugs, with more than 6,200 being seized from the Port of Macalos in Mexico.
